Known all over the world as a land of hamlets, green hills, art cities, sea, where culture and nature merge perfectly, Tuscany has always been considered a charming place and appears to be among the most preferred destinations for photography enthusiasts.

We found for you the best places to take photos in Tuscany: take advantage of these fall weekends to find out and visit these wonders of priceless beauty scattered all over Tuscany, that you can immortalize in any period of the year!

Val d’Orcia and Cappella di Vitaleta

Val d’Orcia benefits from all the typical characteristics of the Tuscan landscape: here, you will find natural landscapes with tree-lined streets, cypresses, small medieval hamlets, and breathtaking sunsets. For photography and nature lovers, it is impossible to resist the temptation to immortalize these unique sights.

Architecturally speaking, among the most evocative buildings to be photographed, there is Cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta, a Renaissance church, UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located along a road that leads from Pienza to San Quirico d’Orcia, surrounded by vineyards and cypresses, this little church always amazes even the most experienced photographers. Our suggestion? Go there at sunset, you will take some amazing pictures!

Crete Senesi

Crete Senesi is a large expanse of clay (due to its past as a sea basin) situated in the south-east of Siena, between Chianti and Val d’Orcia.

It is one of the most suggestive and spectacular places to take pictures of, a territory where there are erosive phenomena like biancane and calanchi. The landscape is characterized by medieval hamlets and archaeological remains dated back to the Etruscan age.

Fall and winter offer landscapes dominated by blue, grey, and yellow tones during the bright days and one of the most interesting and spectacular locations to take some beautiful pictures is Poggiarone, heading for Asciano.

Giardino dei Tarocchi

Giardino dei Tarocchi is a wonderful garden a few miles from Capalbio in Maremma. It is a work of the artist Niki de Saint Phalle made with the help of her husband, the sculptor Jean Tinguely.

22 sculptures inspired by the major arcana of the Tarot, fountains, mirrors, part of a small forest.
The sea in the distance too! In this open-air museum, art, human being and nature merge as one.
It’s a truly special place, where the photographer can capture the surreal atmosphere of this little corner of Paradise in Maremma.

Pitigliano

Also known as the “little Jerusalem”, Pitigliano amazes with its architecture carved in the rock.
It is one of the most fascinating historic hamlets in Tuscany and is the largest of the 3 tuff cities (Sovana, Sorano, and Pitigliano).

Its spectacular position, on a tuff promontory, gives the town that unique rarity and beauty that is seen in few other places in the world. Thanks to its orientation, the sun illuminates the tuff making it appear even more luminous and golden. We recommend taking pictures even at night: will come out a picture worthy of a postcard.

Its historic center is also very special: flowered balconies, small shops, stairways, and people chatting lovingly with tourists, all elements that represent a perfect mix for photography lovers.

Pienza

This charming hamlet is known as the “ideal” city of the Renaissance and is rich in evidence of the past. The historic center of Pienza was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, so it represents a stop that cannot be missed in your photographic collection.

It is a jewel of history and architecture capable of thrilling all the tourists who visit it and is very famous for the production of Cacio di Pienza, a pecorino that you will certainly have to taste and photograph along with other typical products, such as mici and honey. Furthermore, it is located on a hill at a high point of Val d’Orcia, so in addition to photographing the views of the city and the Via del Bacio (one of the most romantic streets in Italy), you will also have the opportunity to take breathtaking panoramic photos.
